A writer, really? Huh. [ He's always been interested in writing-- it was one of his more normal skills. ] What genre?

Apparently I was good enough to make it on the New York's bestseller list; or well read. [A smile spreads across his face, but it's bittersweet. Writing used to be normal for Alan too. Not so much anymore.]

I dabbled between genres. Horror had always been a particular favorite, but crime noir was what everyone liked of me the best.

Wow. [ He raises his eyebrows, looking impressed. ] Yeah, that's definitely something.

[ Horror... AKA non-fiction, to Sam. ] Sounds great. I wish I'd had more time to write, back home.

[It's been a while since he's seen anyone with that expression. And honestly, he kind of misses it. If only he could go back and write for pleasure, not survival. And horror being non-fiction, yeah, pretty much happening to Alan as we speak.]

Too busy for it? I was the opposite. I had all the time back home, and it was great, until I found myself unable to put a single word on paper for two years. I've just now begun to write again, but not for the reasons I wanted.
