[The video feed opens up to something colorful and blurry. Soon, the video autofocuses and one can see a pair of bird's legs walking across the keyboard of a laptop. A disgruntled 'no' comes from somewhere in the room and soon a whistle follows. The bird moves away from the camera, climbing onto a finger. Lisbeth is soon in the video feed as she lifts Walt to her shoulder. Oblivious to the video, she opens up a math book and scribbles away inside.]

What kind of birds do you have in Panem?

There's blackbirds and sparrows, crows, grooslings fly over sometimes, robins, woodpeckers, swallows... I've heard owls. Lots more, my favourites are mockingjays.

[She recognizes... most of the birds she's listed. Walt begins to play with Lisbeth's hair, as if pruning some make-believe feathers.]

[Rue smiles at that, watching the parrot, it's so cute.]

There was a war a long time ago, the Capitol in Panem made these birds called jabberjays. They could listen to conversations and speak them back perfectly, they were like spies... after the war finished the Capitol thought they would die in the wild, but they didn't, they mated with mockingbirds and made a new species.

Mockingjays can't speak words back but they'll repeat songs if you sing to them.
