To those of you who have lived for more than a century --

What is the purpose of a father or creator?

We perform according to our function.

[ For all his power, even he had no say in carrying out the Creator's directive. ]

You speak of purpose and identity as something linked rather than intertwined.

[ He is the god of Romdeau and the "agent of death", and though he has already passed from his world in a manner that allows for now return, he knows nothing else. ]

That's not what I mean, I'm sorry. Of course purpose and identity are part of each other. But one can do multiple things, without those things being either. So just because someone creates, that doesn't necessarily make 'creator' their identity. So the subset of creators whose purpose is related to creation is much smaller than the superset of people for whom 'creator' is an accurate but not preeminent label.

Does that make sense?

[ It does make sense. In fact, it very nearly sickens him, how well he understands.

His own Creators were very cruel, indeed. ]

It is a vision I've not yet seen.

[ He was designed to play a particular role -- the choice to be someone or something else is something he was never allowed to have. ]

I'm sure you have. You just didn't count the multitasking multitudes as creators in comparison to the inscrutable and cosmic ones.
