[John's never really been a fan of Father's Day. However, the very pointed recent absence of one child, and cake from a girl who isn't even his daughter has John unusually chatty and pensive about this whole thing.]

never really got the idea of father's day. what's the point of taking one day to thank your father when you should be taking every day? then there's the assholes who don't deserve it at all.

[The problem here is he's not sure which camp he actually belongs in.]

Some need a day to remember the men they no longer have to thank in person. Some need a reminder. Some men no longer have living children to remember them. Some need a reminder to be a better father.

Mothers got a day first, and I guess men whined enough about not being equal.

sounds about right. they deserve the day more, honestly.

It makes for a good distraction from that crap. No one wants to think about bad things going on when there's a good distraction to help them ignore what's important.

Well they should cut that out! Any good fathers should be protecting the people important to them from the darkness anyway!

I hadn't heard of this 'Father's Day' before now, and frankly, I'm glad I haven't. Maker knows the last thing I needed growing up was a day to remember that bastard by.

If it makes you feel any better, the ancient Romans had, like, two hundred holidays.

There are more subtle ways to give thanks, or to show that you care.

I was referring more to those whom may wish to thank you, rather than the commercial aspects.

It matters to celebrate fathers while they're with us.

To remind us. It's easy to take for granted.
