oo2. ♕ [video]
[The video's panning in a darkened room filled with the slight glows and hums of electronics, none of which look like what can be found around the Port anymore. In fact, at the edge of the screen, rather than a computer and keyboard, there looks to be a completely holographic interface and screen displaying words that didn't look like English at all.
The camera is set firmly in front of what looked like a cleared desk.]
I'm looking for materials... minerals, ores, chemicals, and the such; that people might have brought with them to the Port either by accident or might now be trash to them.
Particularly, my search is for a specific ore that can do this--
[As a demonstration, a coin is tossed at the table. Rather than hitting the surface and clattering around, though, it bounces just the slightest in midair several inches off the surface of the desk, its decent slowing noticeably until it comes to a gentle rest on top of the table without so much as a sound.]
--without allowing the object to fall. [And in before someone suggests giant magnets.] Also without detrimental effect to devices that it may be used within.
I'm uncertain whether such a thing exists here, but... [But two months of being a busy bee and he's barely been able to recreate some computers, devices, and a prototype of a weak anti-grav safety net? Not good enough.] If there is anything that you have seen around the Port that seems strange or unusual technologically, please let me know.

I admit I hadn't thought... that far.
[Literally. Time gates, supercomputer AI systems, Oracle Drives, near unlimited power, and... his world had never tried to go to space. Derp. Talk about attached to their home.]
Atomic energy is powerful, but by itself unstable and dangerous with lasting effects that would be... unacceptable on my world. [The idea of clean energy is better maintained when there were supernatural deity-like beings ready to lay a smackdown to anyone who might so much as throw a coin in a pond.
There's a soft huff of a laugh, slightly caustic.] The energy usage of this world is very different. People hold little care for the consequences of what it might mean to harness energy from resources that may cause detriment to the world around them.

[she has to admit, he has a point, at least in regards to human technology and power sources. it still surprises her sometimes, how backwards and inefficient the energy here is]
These magnetic rocks you want ... are they what you used, then?
no subject
It's-- [There's only a slight hesitation, but she had offered to help and honestly, he had never been one to deny information on basics.] Crystalline energy. It's something my world has in excess, with easy creation methods.
no subject
[which has her curious as to just what he'd need magnetic rocks for in the first place, but that can wait]
Crystalline energy? I'm not familiar with that source. I know there are some worlds where crystal is abundant, but I have no data on whether they harnessed the energy from them. Do you use them to increase the output on solar or other light-based power sources? Heat, maybe? The refraction process would work quite well with lasers, as well.
no subject
[And that's all he has to say on that unless she asks further.]
Regular crystals, yes. Those can be used as an amplifier to reduce the amount of energy inputted. [What the hell. It wasn't as if anyone had access to his world anyway.] I suppose something that may be unique to my world would be the living crystals. It's a cycle where creatures with crystalline hearts have the ability to turn other objects into crystals, and through that process create an energy that I've yet to see in this world.
It was a form of... magic, where I come from.
no subject
but crystals, well. this is all new and, quite frankly, shiny]
Life energy manifested as crystal? I'm not sure even I can entirely understand how that happens. And it's most certainly not by magic. There has to be a scientific explanation. Resonance, perhaps? Perhaps the crystal acts as a casing for living energy? Oh, it's a pity there isn't any here. I'd love to study it.
no subject
[Gods and goddesses and such... this world doesn't seem to believe in those. He, however, had good reason to believe.]
Perhaps. It is said that for those creatures, the crystals would be their 'heart'. [There's a quieter part.] They can, however, pass a portion of that energy to other living beings. But for those who did not possess such powers from birth, the consequences may be dire.
[He has a portion of it, along with several others from his world. But that's something to be kept secret.]

[her and the Doctor could, for instance, but not unlike Hope, she intended on keeping that rather close to her breast]
Death? Or metamorphosis?
no subject
Thus the route of technological development that my world has chosen.
no subject
And you want to replicate that technology here, on the Port. I can't say I'm against it. What I wouldn't give for my proper body back.
no subject
Proper body? [It's more a polite inquiry, but not pressing. Light enough to ignore if she didn't want to talk about it.] We've been able to replicate the surge of energy, but not the transference. That seems to be beyond human means.
[...And he had prohibited all research of that in the Academy. The closest they had ever gotten was the Proto-Fal'Cie project, but even that had been scrapped because he had been too uncomfortable with the idea
and Serah is scary when she's mad.]no subject
Oh yes. I'm not actually human. I mean I'm in a human body, but I'm not supposed to be. I'm still not quite sure how the Core managed to even put me back in this one, considering it died. I'm a Time Travel Capsule.
no subject
It couldn't be-- obviously not. But still, that thought opened up a whole new can of worms.]
What? [A sentient time travel capsule? Obviously more advanced than his prototype, and the thought left his mind blank for a moment.] Do you remember yourself before your current body, then? [Wait.] You said you'd like your old body back.
[Just. What. Tech beyond him. He's not sure how to deal with that, especially since he's never really had the chance to before.]

[There's a soft huff of breath. It had been strange for him to think in time all at once, especially as he had tried to before, trying to imagine what it was line in Valhalla where time didn't exist so much as combined. What was it like for Lightning to be there?]

[His mythologies are really complicated and concern multiple dimensions and worlds which are not so much myths but real.]
It's said that time does not pass there, but barely touches its shores. And that its gate opens only upon death.
...It's a hard place to find for those alive.

All of these different worlds here, they're absolutely fascinating. I would love to learn more if you'd be willing.
no subject
I don't mind sharing. [In fact, there's a warmth to that in his tone. He likes talking about the things he's learned. It makes him feel... useful, somehow. Like there was a good reason he spent all that time studying.] Although I doubt any of it would have any pertinence to this world.
no subject
Oh, that doesn't matter. The learning is what's important. [she beams] We can exchange stories. You tell me yours and I'll tell you mine. Well, one of them, maybe. I have quite a few. Perhaps we could meet and talk whilst doing projects? This place can get terribly boring.

A different perspective on things would be most welcome. The Port is purposefully putting people from different worlds and realities together, then perhaps combined ideas is what will offer a way out.

[That's a funny thing to say, unless they were professors of some kind.]
