[Kanaya can appreciate that Jade is trying really, really hard to reassure her. She wants to be reassured. Realistically, she knows that there is nothing she can probably do, regardless of what has happened to Rose, but that does not make her feel any better. And likely Jade feels just as terrible as she does.]

He could be one of the Canadians. But your point is taken, Jade. [Come here, have a hug.] It would be unreasonable to assume that she won't reappear in a haze of magic and destruction as soon as we let our guard down.

[Trying to be positive about this. TRYING. She will not feel like a failure. She will not, at least, infect Jade with that feeling.]

[ she really doubts he'd be amongst the canadians because he would've shown up at their apartment by now if he were in the port but anyway - but yes okay hugs time. and she wraps her arms around kanaya and holds on tight because you know what, it's been a really long and draining last couple of days, and maybe hugs can make that better.

[Kanaya is not the most expert of hugs. Trolls are not, on the whole, the most touchy of people. But she's better than most, and she can wrap her arms around Jade's shoulder and hold her just so beneath her chin.]

We would never hear the end of it. Sweeps later she would chide us for believing she wouldn't return.

[ truth be told, it's been a long time since someone's hugged jade, not since years and years and years ago when her grandpa was still alive and there was still someone else to take care of the big and scary things. she's had doggie hugs since then, plenty of snuggles with bec and tanglebuddies, but this is different. ]

Hehe, she'd probably get us some special 'passive-aggressive' present to remind us about it.

If the human hasn't objected by now, then surely this is okay by her standards; on Alternia, she isn't sure how this would be taken now. As a very pale overture, or possibly red. The thought makes her clear her throat, and try to look away before she can see any color in Kanaya's face.]

Do you think she would go so far as to knit us a quilt? Or would a tea cozy do?

[There are a lot of things she should probably say, right now, and she can't bring herself to utter a word of them. What good would it do to ask Jade to say? Or, if she tried to tell her about the guilt, would she even understand?]
