☠ THREE ☠ [VIDEO]

[On comes the feed and it seems as if Astrid is in the kitchen, her NV set up on the counter. Behind her is a microwave, door partially open and there seems to be a post-it note stuck to the door. It's a note she's decided to ignore - "Astrid do not touch! - Hiccup" written in runes. Why did she ignore it? Well the empty soup can in her hand seems to be an indication of the reason for defying the note.]

You know, the future is pretty amazing. Even the simple stuff, or well what most people here would consider simple I guess, it's awesome to me. I mean, you've soup in these 'metal cans'. I'm not going to lie, they're a pain to get open, but it's genius as a way of storing and preserving food. The refrigerator is definitely still my favourite so far though.

[Her demeanor soon shifts into a frown, hand gripping the empty can rather tightly.]

Speaking of pains, whoever burnt down Nibbleheim? If I find out who you are? I'll personally gut you with my axe and display your head on a spike for everyone to see. As we Vikings say, 'A head stuck on a pike no longer conspires.' Now Hiccup and I are out of a job until it's rebuilt, aside from helping the owner with repairs. We need money to live, you rat eating sludge bucket! If I find out who you are? You better pray to the gods you can run faster than me.

[That said, the can is set down on the table near her before she glances over her shoulder at the microwave.]

Oh-! I forgot to close it. That's why it's not working.

[And she pushes the door shut, pressing the '2' and then the start button. On goes the microwave with a quiet hum before she turns back.]

Anyway this thing, the 'microwave', is unbelievable. I mean, you just put in food, push a few buttons and then it's suddenly warm! I've no idea how it works but it can't be that difficult. Hiccup can use it just fine and I'm no idiot-

[But she cuts herself short when there's a distinctive crackling of sparks and bzzzzzting coming from inside the microwave. Yes, she left the spoon in the bowl. Guess who doesn't know that you're not supposed to put metal in the microwave? This Viking.]

AH-! What's happening-?!

[It's gotten worse now, as the sparking has turned into little flames inside the microwave. By this time Astrid's completely forgotten about her NV as she shrieks, tugging at her side bangs, whipping her gaze around the kitchen frantically. Grabbing the hand towel she wrenches open the microwave door to pat out the flames and in the process, knocking her bowl of soup out of the way, letting it crash on the floor.]

SON of a Half-Troll-!

Well... It's common knowledge in this time period, so there aren't really warnings. And yes, that's essentially what they do, but a microwave heats things using electromagnetic energy instead of fire like a forge, and metal just absorbs electricity instead of turning it into heat. Thus, you get all the excess electrical energy appearing as sparks, trying to leap from the metal's surface to another conductive surface.

[ she rattles this off right from the top of her head, apparently not really thinking about who she's talking to. ]
kuritsun: (haha wow what an ugly baby)

-- Oh. Right, well, um... Think of it this way: the forge uses fire to heat things up, and the microwave uses thunder. If you were... holding your axe up to the sky during a thunderstorm, it'd be dangerous, since if the thunder hit your axe, it would also hit you, right? It's the same idea. The microwave's thunder just passes through metal instead of heating it up.
kuritsun: (bitch you look kawaii)

That's right. [ she's actually rather pleased at having successfully taught her about it! kinda. Good enough. ] The god of thunder?
kuritsun: (COUGHS AND DIES)

Huh. You really are a viking. Well, I can't say I know much about Norse mythology, so I'm not sure.

[ her notnotboyfriend probably would, were he here... ]
kuritsun: (awwww)

[ oh no don't anger the viking ]

Ah -- I'm sorry. It's not that I doubt you... I'm simply still getting used to the idea of so many timelines converging here.
kuritsun: (HA...HA...HA)

I might have guessed... [ considering the state of the microwave. ] If you have any more questions about modern science, though, I can probably answer them.
kuritsun: (wat)

Well, I can't promise that I have all the answers, but I can try. There are things here that I don't understand yet, myself.
