- Tragedy struck early this morning in Sector Four when Steven Hayes, a stay-at-home father of three, killed a trespasser on his property. Hayes is claiming the death was accidental and that he only shoved the trespasser out of anger due to a long-standing conflict. His neighbor Harry Brown had been repeatedly invading Hayes's property shortly after morning sirens since Groundhog Day, insisting that the backyard was the end of a double rainbow and that Hayes was "hoarding the extra wishes." Though Hayes launched many complaints to the police and the neighborhood association, due to Brown's advanced age and possibly declining mental health, he was considered a case for social services, who chose not to remove Brown from his home. A spokesperson for social services explained that Brown was able to take care of himself and suffered no major delusions or dissociation from reality aside from his issue with the Hayes family. Brown's family as well as Steven Hayes have vowed to look into that assessment further.

This morning when Hayes found Brown digging up the remains of the Hayes's house cat, buried last week, they engaged in a loud altercation that was overheard by several neighbors. Hayes claims to have shoved Brown out of anger, who took a hard fall on the concrete patio and subsequently died from the head injury.

"It's clear Harry had finally lost it. He kept calling my youngest son a leprechaun and insisting we share the gold. It's true my kid was wearing a lot of green - it's almost St. Patrick's Day, for Pete's sake - and he did turn our cat into gold, but that's a private family affair... or it was." Hayes went on to explain that his son recently manifested a molecular alteration mutation that caused him to turn items into various different metals. Unfortunately, the family cat, Fluffernut, was completely transformed before he was properly diagnosed and put under the watch and care of SERO.

"I didn't mean to kill him. It had been a hard week, with losing Fluffernut and having to make the decision to put my youngest in SERO custody. We weren't close to Harry but we were always friendly. I guess in a way it really isn't so different from the tales. His obsession with finding that gold came at a terrible price."

Hayes also noted he was considering selling Fluffernut's solid gold remains in order to pay for his son's care.
