[Xion is determinedly trying her best to be in the Christmas spirit, even though she's not had an awful lot to feel cheerful about lately. She's in the Khave, sporting a seasonal hat and apron, surrounded by a small army of un-iced gingerbread men, some tasty and festive looking cupcakes and a there's an icing sugar shaker by her side which has clearly just been used on the tray of Mince Pies in front of her. She's looking at them quizzically.]

You know... I never quite figured out why it's called 'mincemeat' when there's no meat in it, does that seem strange to anybody else?

[She shrugs, and then offers her best smile to the NV.]

So it's nearly Christmas and we've got a whole heap of Christmas specials on at Kahve right now! We've got warm apple cider for a limited time only, and cocoa and we're doing a special today where if you donate some munny to the animal shelter, you can ice your own gingerbread- or lady- man however you want!

[And here she holds up two she made earlier which may or may not pay a striking resemblance to her housemates.]

The animal shelter? Oh, that's so nice of you! How much should I bring?

Oh, only as much as you want to donate. Every little bit helps, right?

Yeah! I'll figure out how much I can spare. I think that's really great.

[Fidgets a little shyly.]

Well you know, it's the season of giving and I figured it would be nice to give something to a place that does such a great job.

It used to always have meat in it! The mincemeat, I mean. I guess people just started making it without, but the name stayed the same.

It did? Even with all the fruit and spices?

[She glances at the pies in front of her and looks thoughtful.]

Wouldn't that taste kinda... weird?

Oh, no! I had it sometimes at home with mutton... Well, I remember asking the same question you did, and my butler told me what I told you, and then he made it with mutton. So I have it both ways, sometimes, just however he makes it.

[Joe might be...completely pink at the sight of that cookie which bears too much striking resemblance to himself (with green hair?) ...and the declaration that he is, indeed, awesome.

The sprinkled rainbow gingerbread shorts do make him fluster, a little.]

Keeping busy, huh?

Why, because it's minus the meat it should have had, of course.

I think it used to.

Merry Christmas, Xion. [Faint smile is audible.] It sounds like you have Christmas preparations well in hand for Kahve.

Tastes may have shifted in regards to the filling for those pies. Often a name will carry on and survive, long after that which it was named for has changed. [He personally prefers them without meat.]

Did Roxas help come up with it? It seems like something he'd like to do, too.

[It's hard trying to find the right coloured frosting pens when your brother has an unusual hair colour. Xion smiles.]

Sure am! You know how busy things can get at this time of year, this year I wanted to go as far out as I could for Christmas.

[Anything to stop her from thinking about what she's missing this year.]

It is? But all the recipes say it doesn't have meat, and all the stuff they sell in the stores doesn't have any meat in it either.

Well we talked about it together and he agreed. The pet shelter's where Ven took me to get Blue for my birthday.

[She drops her eyes to the pies for a moment, moving them over to make a little more room. When she looks up again, she's smiling.]

But Roxas thought it was a great idea, and it's always nice to do something to bring new customers to see us.

That still seems like it would be weird. I guess it's because I've never thought that you would put meat in something sweet like spiced fruit.

But then some people say that sea salt shouldn't go in ice cream when I tell them about that, so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to write it off.

I wonder why they took it out.

It's over in sector 4, are you thinking about adopting a pet?

Well, we try to get things Christmassy here, it's kind of a tradition. You know... spread some Christmas cheer.

[And hope that it worms its way into them as well.]

Did you ever try a mince pie with meat in it?

It is kind of special, and Blue's very special for me too so I wanted to something to help.

Mincemeat's just mixed fruit and spices and candied peel all mixed up all together. It tastes pretty good though! It's a really old recipe from a world called England.

Hmm, once or twice, a long time ago. My Master was much more fond of it than I.

Well okay then, Miss I-Know-My-Mincemeat-History!

...candied peel? Like we're eating the fruit rinds of stuff?

I could try some, sure. I'll come down on my lunch break.

I hadn't really considered it, but...

Yeah, you have to boil the peel so that the bitterness gets taken out, then you cook it in sugar syrup and you're done. I saw some at the deli the other day, the lady told me how they make it. She let me try some too, it's really good. I'll let you have some when you come by at lunch time.

You want me to make lunch for you too?

It's a really good shelter! All the money from the adoption fee goes to looking after the rest of the animals there and the lady who runs it is really nice too.

I don't know, I'll try my best. I loved Christmas so much last year, and I just want this Christmas to be good too. I know it won't be the same but it can still be nice, right?

What was your Master like? If you don't mind me asking.

A force of nature, in personality as well as in deed. She had a wicked sense of humour. Strong, dedicated -- quite beautiful, if you'll allow me some bias for my teacher there.

Of course it is. You can't expect someone to remember what they've forgot.

Oh, that's - um, I don't need anything in return for donating. I mean, it's charity, so I don't really want a reward for it or anything. Oh, I'd definitely buy a few cookies, though! I bet they're delicious.
