004: [ video ]

[ he frowns into the camera ] This doesn't make any sense. Why would you want to let a fat man carrying a bag of toys into your house in the middle of the night after the sirens have gone off? Wouldn't that just ruin the darkness protection on your house?

Oh, and why do you call it Christmas? Can't it just be a winter festival?

[ because other then the creepy fat man in red and the constant badgering to spend his money, Christmas didn't really sound like a bad holiday. He liked gifts! He liked giving gifts. He just didn't see why this Christ fellow had be dragged into it as well. Honestly, it almost sounded like something straight out of a horror book, or will be by the time Oz is through dissecting it. ]

I believe St. Nicholas' saint day is in early December. He's the original 'Santa Claus' if you will. He used to dote and whatnot on children and the like, good man that he was.

[He had to be somewhat decent, at least, to be a saint.]

There is pagan winter festival that fell close to what is now Christmas, December 25th, and when the pope was deciding on a date for Jesus' birthday, he decided that it would be a convenient day for Christmas to be held so that the converting of pagans to Christianity would be easier. Since St. Nicholas' saint day is so close in proximity, the traditions simply carried over to Christmas.

Jesus was apparently brought gifts the day of his birth though - gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Well...when I was younger and my parents were still alive, father would have a large tree set up in the hall. We would all decorate it and there would be a large Christmas supper. Relatives would visit, we would go to Mass, presents would be opened and played with...

Dessert was always fantastic.

Well, there were a few different ones that were served. Christmas pudding and maraschio velvet were rather popular. The pudding was a necessity to have. It would not be Christmas without a plum pudding.
