I would term the emotions involved 'desire' rather than 'love.' Perhaps not solely or even not at all sexual desire, but a desire to possess the the stalker would describe him or herself as loving, rather than a regard for the other's well-being.

[A shrug.] I admit this is pedantic, but I do think it makes a difference.
