☼ 005 - [(sort of) accidental video]
[The feed comes on to a view of Axel's bedroom. There's a bit of clutter--some paperwork he brought home from the office, a few pairs of jeans thrown over the back of the desk chair, a half-eaten bag of Doritos on the nighttable--but overall it's not a hideous pigsty. Axel is seated on his bed dressed in his plaid pajama pants and an old sweatshirt with the sleeves rolled up; the NV is obviously perched on a nearby shelf of some sort, within arm's reach. He's got a guitar in his lap and is messing with the strings. The instrument looks old, but not in bad shape, and Axel lets out a muffled curse as he pokes his arm with one of the untrimmed wire strings. Grabbing a pair of scissors he quickly snips off the excess and then shakes a finger at the NV.]
Okay Nav-V, you're sure you're not tone deaf?
I have perfect pitch and I am fully prepared to assist you in recording your demo.
[He makes a face.] I wasn't serious. It's been way too long.
It's never too late to pick up an old hobby.
Right. Well. I think I'll wait to see if I can even remember which string is which before I actually try and record anything. Gimme an E.
[A single clear tone rings from the NV, and Axel twists the knobs at the top of the guitar to tune one of the strings to match the note. He grimaces.]
Eugh! Out of tune is the worst; I'm glad I found new strings for this old thing. The strings it came with were in horrible shape.
[The tone stops.]
I told you last week you should get a new G-string.
[Axel glances up at the NV briefly and glowers, as if it could see him.]
Keep your smart trap shut and gimme an A.
I have no trap to shut. And I couldn't give you the note if I shut it anyway.
[Eyeroll. The device emits another tone and Axel carefully adjusts the A string to match.]
Guess it really is like falling off a bike.
I think falling off a bike is easier. Gravity is on your side, after all.
I'm thinking maybe it's time to reprogram you; you've gotten very sassy lately.
I learned from the best, Axel.
[He lifts his eyes again and shakes his head.] I think my tutelary tendencies didn't really hit the mark this time aro-- [Axel's eyes widen suddenly.] Nav-V why is the record light on?
Because you said you were going to record a demo reel. I was only doing what you asked.
I was joking! [He makes a mad swipe at the NV and his palm closes over the screen and everything goes black. There is some clattering.] Did you-- You broadcast that?? I'm in my pajamas, Nav-V! Who broadcasts a demo on the first take anyway, are you out of your circuitboard? Oh for Light's sa--
[The feed cuts. A very abashed Axel might respond to everyone who is inevitably going to poke fun at him for this shortly.]
