- Newcomers Required to Carry ID? “Not On Our Dime”, says Stingy Governor
Governor Townshed has been reviewing a newly drafted law requiring all newcomers to carry Photo ID, registered at the Siren’s Port Department of Motor Vehicles. He is currently planning to veto the bill, because he believes it should not fall to the city to cover printing and processing costs for newcomers, when basic photo license and registration costs $50 for local citizens. “Under this proposal, we could not expect fresh-off-the-field arrivals to immediately pay for these IDs themselves, but that’s just not a dime I’m willing to squeeze out of the taxpayer’s treasury or waive on their behalf.”
“This initiative will keep tabs on these unknowns and keep them on formal record- easier for police to identify. We have no idea just how many of these people are wandering these streets as John Does, and that’s irresponsible.” explained lobbyist Shane Overstud, who thinks Townshed is being a penny pincher on the issue. “if overhead cost is such a big problem, I’m sure the companies could lend a hand. Microloans aren’t so difficult to come by, even for newcomers.” Under the newly proposed law, greeters will be required to inform new arrivals they have 48 hours to acquire ID.
