[Dean hasn't figured out the video function on his NV so he's blisfully unaware and accessing the network via audio because it's what he's used to.

His voice sounds rough with lack of sleep because he hasn't really gotten much in the past week but it's also lined with a hell of a lot of sarcasm and contempt for his situation.]

Since we got the whole parallel dimension snatching up civilians thing covered I guess it'd be stupid to introduce myself as Jerry Wanek.

What the hell's there to do around here except avoid the darkness and kill the crap that comes out of it?

This place'd be a lot better if I had my car.

[And because he hasn't figured out filters yet either he'll just be leaving it at that, even if he needs to talk to Cas and is going to try reaching Sam on his own time later.]

[Oh. That explains some things.]

That was a long time ago for me, Dean. Nearly three years.

[Not counting his time here.]

Three years?

I knew the timelines were screwy but this takes the cake.

Crowley is from even farther forward; another six months ahead of me. But you and Sam are from less than a year apart.

[Even if Castiel hasn't heard from Sam in over a month, Dean should know he's here.]

Heard about Sam.

I was fixin' to go out and look for him while the sun's still shining tomorrow.

[Sam wasn't going to bail out, not on his watch. The fact that he'd been radio silence for almost a month made him worry. Even if he was from as far back as Cas said he was still his brother.

He's not gonna comment on Crowley. He met him. Already wasn't too thrilled about it.]

What were you told?

[Because some of it he doesn't want Dean finding out. Ever.]

[Cas' reaction isn't good and he knows he's missing some important intel on his brother just by what he says.]

That's he's missing.

[He pauses.] If I'm gonna be stuck here I'm gonna make sure he's okay too. This place is a lot crazier than our usual haunts.

[At least when it comes to the emotional.]

I haven't been able to find him, Dean. I don't think he wants to be found.

[Of course Castiel isn't saying that he hasn't truly looked for Sam, but the latter part is true; he's pretty sure Sam wants time alone.]

You just don't know where to look.

Sam's bounced a few times before all he needs is a reality check.

He storms out like a bitch and honestly I'm gettin' tired of it.

[Dean's not sure what happened but he knows Sam and if his brother's here he's not gonna let him stew in his anger any more than he would back home.

It never ended well.]

[Castiel doesn't bother to argue; it's not like he'd win anyway, so he just gives it up.]

Have you found your apartment yet?

You can come with me too, man.

Instead of hagin' around that demon.

[Dean stops Cas with a hand just in case he feels the need to explain.]

I don't know and I don't wanna know. Not about that.

[He doesn't need the deets about Cas bunking with something fresh off the skillet hellside.

He doesn't really get it but he's not gonna press his luck.]

I'm livin' with my mom right now.

[He's quiet a moment.]

I'm not certain that would be best.

[Him helping look for Sam too, he means. And don't worry, he has no intention of telling Dean much about Crowley.]

Good.

[Living with Mary would be safe for them both.]

Why?

Sam's your friend too.

And that's why I'm allowing him the solitude. He needs it.

[Sidestepping the question a little bit there, don't mind him.]

Bullshit. Sam runs and hides every time somethin' doesn't go his way and it's gettin' pretty old.

Dean.

[His voice is quiet but tone serious; he means what he said.]

No, I'm gonna find my brother.

I don't care what he did. [And no one was telling him.] He doesn't deserve to go through this alone.

He wants to, or he would not be.

[At least, that's what Castiel understands and hopes.]

That's bull.

He's family.

We're not just gonna leave him out there.

[He wants to protest more, but he doesn't. Instead he just gives a quiet sigh.]

Of course, Dean.

Look, I dunno what happened everyone's too busy beatin' around the bush. What I do know is that Sam's saved your ass a couple a' times too so you can pick up your skirt and get over whatever the problem is.

[Castiel's eyes flash briefly in frustration, though Dean can't see it. His tone, though, is harder.]

I'm well aware, Dean. But I'm not seeking Sam out due to respect, not whatever issue you believe occurred.

[Which is... Partially true.]

If the situations were reversed I'd be tellin' him the same thing. There's a fine line between needin' time and runnin' from your mistakes. Whatever it is. He needs to own up.

It isn't...

[He wants to say that it isn't that simple, that Sam hasn't denied his part in what happened, that it isn't all Sam's fault anyway. That Castiel doesn't feel like Sam's not owning up, but that he's giving them both space, which is the best thing for them. But he isn't about to explain everything so the protest just trails off and again he gives in.]

Fine.

Thanks, Cas. We'll figure it out.
